Two suspected militants were killed in a gunfight with security forces after they attempted to snatch the weapon of a Bharatiya Janata Party leader’s personal security guard, PTI reported on Friday. A Central Reserve Police Force jawan was injured during the encounter.

The incident took place in Balhama area of Pulwama district on Thursday. The suspected militants tried to disarm Bilal Ahmad and two other people guarding BJP leader Anwar Khan, and fired at them. Ahmad injured his leg in the incident while Khan escaped unhurt.

“Bodies of two militants have been recovered so far,” an unidentified police spokesperson told PTI. “Their identities are being ascertained. Incriminating materials, which include weapons and ammunition, have been recovered as well.”

Earlier, reports mentioned three militants had attacked the BJP leader. “Three terrorists in an undisclosed location are trapped and engaged in encounter after an unsuccessful attempt of weapon snatching from PSO [personal security officer] of a protected person,” Director General of Police SP Vaid had tweeted.
