Canada says it does not endorse incorrect map of India used at a Justin Trudeau event
The map at an event during the Canadian prime minister’s India visit in February had depicted Jammu and Kashmir incorrectly.
Canada has told India that it does not endorse the inaccurate map of India that was used at an event featuring Prime Minister Justin Trudeau last month. India on Thursday said that Canada had told New Delhi a third party had organised the event.
“We had taken up the matter with the Canadian side,” External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said. “We were informed that the inaccurate depiction of the Indian flag happened at the Young Change Maker’s conclave held on February 24...it was organised by a third party and the map and its backdrop were an artist’s rendering.”
He said India had been told that the map does not imply “endorsement or acceptance” by Canada.
A map of India used at the February 24 event had shown Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, Aksai Chin and Gujarat incorrectly. Trudeau attended the event on the last day of his week-long visit to India.
