The Aam Aadmi Party on Friday said truth has triumphed after the Delhi High Court reinstated legislators of the party who had been disqualified for holding offices of profit as parliamentary secretaries, posts they were appointed to in 2015.

“The elected representatives were wrongfully disqualified,” said party head and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. “The High Court has given justice to the people of Delhi. It is their victory. Congratulations to the people of Delhi.”

Party leaders celebrated in the Delhi Assembly. They shouted “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and thumped tables after Speaker Ram Niwas Goel said the MLAs will be allowed to attend the ongoing Budget session.

Kejriwal’s media advisor Nagender Sharma said the court order was a “tight slap on biased” Election Commission. “All three commissioners should resign on their own,” Sharma said on Twitter.

Earlier in the day, the High Court asked the Election Commission to hear the case afresh while setting aside its recommendation to disqualify the MLAs. The bench of judges Sanjiv Khanna and Chander Shekhar said the MLAs had not been given a proper hearing, and asked the Election Commission to reconsider each case on merit.
