The Delhi Police on Saturday registered a first information report against protestors who participated in the Jawaharlal Nehru University student’s march on Friday.

The FIR was filed at Sarojini Nagar police station and the case is being investigated by the station house officer, the police told Scroll.in. However, they did not disclose any other details of the case.

Students of Jawaharlal Nehru University along with members of the varsity’s teachers’ union marched to Parliament on Friday, to protest against the administration’s compulsory attendance rule and the removal of several departmental heads.

However, the Delhi Police halted the march near INA Market before using water cannons against the demonstrators. They also baton charged the protestors, injuring many, the students said. The police detained some demonstrators as well.

A video has since emerged showing police personnel purportedly roughing up two female journalists during the march. Media personnel who covered the march on Friday said that policewomen threatened and intimidated one of the female journalists, and Station House Officer Vidyadhar Singh molested another. The police personnel also beat up a male journalist during the melee, they said.

The police have apologised for the incident but till they had not filed an FIR against Vidyadhar Singh till Saturday night.
