Punjab: BSF soldiers kill suspected Pakistani smuggler, arrest one near international border
They were intercepted at the Ramkot Border outpost near Amritsar with four kilograms of heroin.
The Border Security Force on Friday shot dead a suspected Pakistani intruder and arrested another with four kilograms of heroin at the Ramkot Border outpost near Amritsar on Thursday night, PTI reported.
A patrolling team of the BSF reportedly noticed the two moving around suspiciously on the Indian side of the international border. They were told to stop, but they did not listen and kept coming towards the soldiers, the news agency quoted an unidentified BSF official as saying. This forced the soldiers to open fire in self-defence.
The official said they rarely arrested Pakistani smugglers as most of them are either killed or they flee back to Pakistan under cover of darkness, The Times of India reported. The suspected smuggler who was arrested is being interrogated and the information extracted from him could help unmask cross-border smuggling networks.
