Security forces shot dead a militant in a gunfight on Friday in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district. The police identified the militant as Mussavir Wani, a resident of Delipora in Pulwama. Wani was a member of the Hizbul Mujahideen outfit, the police said.

Pulwama Senior Superintendent of Police Mohammad Aslam Choudary told the Global News Service that the gunfight broke out as a joint team of the Army’s Rashtriya Rifles, Central Reserve Police Forces and police officers were conducting a cordon and search operation at the Kangan orchards.

The firing began as security forces closed in on the house where they believed one of the militants was hiding, PTI reported. The militant was killed after a brief gunfight with the security forces. The police recovered an AK-47 and a self-loading rifle from Wani.

Lashkar-e-Taiba militant arrested

Security forces on Friday arrested a member of the Lashkar-e-Taiba group, Zabiullah, from Hyhama area of Pulwama district, following a cordon and search operation. He is a Pakistani citizen, the police claimed.

The police said Zabiullah had recently infiltrated across the Line of Control and “incriminating materials” were found on him.
