A woman and her family attempted suicide outside Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Adityanath’s house in Lucknow on Sunday, alleging that the police had not taken action against a Bharatiya Janata Party MLA whom she has accused of rape, ANI reported.

The woman’s family alleged that Unnao MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar and some of his accomplices had raped her in 2017 and even beat them up.

According to local media reports, the woman poured oil on herself and tried set herself on fire before the police stopped her. She said no action had been taken even after she had approached the chief minister.

“I have been running pillar to post for the last one year, but no one is listening to me,” she said, according to The Indian Express. “I want to see all of them arrested, otherwise I will kill myself.”

The BJP MLA has refuted the allegations. “This is a planned incident,” Sengar said, according to The Indian Express. “There was an incident in their family and a case was registered. I am being made the scapegoat.”

Lucknow Additional Directorate General of Police Rajiv Krishnan told the newspaper that during their investigation, the police found that both sides were involved in a decade-long dispute. “The case has been transferred to Lucknow,” he added. “The allegations can only be proved after a thorough investigation.”
