The Central Board of Secondary Education on Tuesday said it will conduct exams for Class 10 and Class 12 students in Punjab on April 27. The exams were postponed last week because of a nationwide shutdown.

The Class 10 students were scheduled to write their Sanskrit, Urdu (Course-B) and French exams on April 2, and the Class 12 students had their Hindi (Core), Hindi (Elective), Gujarati, Nepali and Kashmiri papers on that day. However, a day before the exam, the CBSE postponed it for students in Punjab.

While announcing the new date, the CBSE said students would be able to use the same hall tickets at the centre where they took their other exams.

The decision had come after Dalit organisations called for a statewide shutdown on April 2, prompting the Punjab government to suspend transport services, and shut educational institutions and banks.

The protests had been called against the Supreme Court’s judgement restricting the scope of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes Atrocities Act. The protests became violent in several states, leading to the death of at least 11 people.
