10 people, including a UN peacekeeper, killed in clashes in the Central African Republic

At least 10 people were killed in clashes that broke out between United Nations peacekeepers and demonstrators in Central African Republic’s Capital Bangui on Tuesday, Reuters reported. Demonstrators on Wednesday laid the bodies of the deceased outside the UN headquarters in Bangui.
The peacekeeping mission, UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilisation Mission in the Central African Republic, said one of its soldiers had been killed and eight were wounded in the clashes that broke out in the PK5 neighbourhood in Bangui. Nine protestors also died.
The local security forces, along with the peacekeepers, had launched an operation in the area on Sunday to dismantle the bases of armed groups that the UN has accused of extortion and attacks on civilians.
The Central African Republic has been facing violence after Muslim rebels forced President Fracois Bozize out of power in 2013, provoking revenge attacks, AFP reported.
