Meghalaya: Police officer arrested for allegedly raping tea shop owner
The complainant said the officer in charge of the Mawngap police station had assaulted her on February 2.
An officer with the Meghalaya Police was arrested on Saturday for allegedly raping a woman in her tea shop, The Hindu reported.
The police said the woman filed a complaint on Wednesday, saying the officer in charge of the Mawngap police station had assaulted her on February 2.
“The officer was arrested in Kolkata, where he was being trained, and brought back to Shillong on Friday,” Meghalaya Deputy Inspector-General (Eastern Range) AR Mawthoh told The Hindu.
This is the second rape case to be registered this week in Meghalaya. The police earlier detained five men, including a juvenile, for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl on Wednesday in a moving vehicle, The Shillong Times reported. The men allegedly raped the girl after she got into the vehicle as she knew one of them.
They were arrested after the girl’s mother managed to find out her location, stop the vehicle and take them all to the police station.
