Nepal: Bomb goes off at Indian consulate office near border, no casualties reported
Authorities suspect the involvement of a local political party that had called for a protest earlier in the day.
A bomb went off outside an Indian consulate office in Nepal’s Biratnagar, just six kilometers from the India-Nepal border on Monday night. There was no one in the office during the explosion, PTI reported.
“The explosion took place at 10.20 pm and caused a hole in the compound wall towards the back of the office building complex,” an Army officer said.
Morang district’s Superintendent of Police Arun Kumar said the blast caused minor damage to the wall and that the police are investigating the case, the Kathmandu Post reported. For now, the investigating officials said they suspected the involvement of Netra Bikram Chand’s Communist Party of Nepal, which called a general protest in Biratnagar on Monday.
The office was set up during the floods in Nepal and north Bihar in 2017.
