The police in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur Dehat district have arrested a 16-year-old boy accused of raping a 13-year-old girl, The Times of India reported on Wednesday. He has been charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act on Monday and sent to a juvenile home.

The alleged incident occurred on Sunday, when the boy reportedly attacked the girl and sexually assaulted her at a cattle shed. His parents were also arrested for allegedly beating up the complainant’s family members when they sought to talk to them about the incident, reported PTI.

“The accused is the girl’s neighbour who allegedly committed the crime in front of his sister,” ANI quoted district Deputy Inspector General Ratan Kant Pandey as saying. “The juvenile, along with his parents, had beaten the victim, leaving her injured.” The family members of the accused allegedly threatened the girl and asked her not to tell her parents about the incident, Pandey added.

The girl is undergoing treatment at the district hospital. The police are also searching for other suspects involved in the attack on her parents, reported The Times of India.
