CBI arrests five customs officials in Mumbai for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 50 lakh
All the accused will be produced in a special CBI court, officials said.
The Central Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday arrested five officials from the customs department in Mumbai for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 50 lakh to clear a consignment, The Times of India reported. A civilian was also arrested.
Officials identified the accused as Deputy Commissioners Mukesh Meena, Rajeev Kumar Singh, Sudarshan Meena, Sandeep Yadav and Superintendent Manish Singh. The civilian was identified as Nilesh Singh.
Based on the complainant’s statement, the investigating agency laid a trap and caught two deputy commissioners and Nilesh Singh when they were allegedly accepting Rs 5 lakh, the first installment of the bribe.
“Searches are underway at the residences and offices of all the arrested accused,” an unidentified officer told The Hindu. “They are being produced in a special CBI court.”
