Kashmir: Teen killed, four injured in clashes between villagers, security forces in Shopian district
The forces reportedly fired ammunition, teargas and pellets at the protestors.
A teenager was killed and at least four other people were injured as clashes broke out between civilians and the government forces in Turkawangam village of Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district on Wednesday.
Officials identified the teenager as Umar Kumar, the Hindustan Times reported. “The boy had a bullet wound in his chest,” Shopian Chief Medical Officer Abdul Rashid Najar said. “He was already dead when they brought him to the hospital.” The injured people have been admitted to various hospitals.
Residents and security forces clashes after officials reportedly cordoned off the village to carry out an anti-militant operation. Just as the encounter operation began, residents came out in protest, which led to the security forces personnel retaliating. The forces reportedly fired ammunition, teargas and pellets at the protestors.
