A spokesperson for India’s Ministry of External Affairs said the government was in touch with Afghan authorities.
A group of unidentified armed men abducted seven employees of an Indian company in Afghanistan’s Baghlan province on Sunday.
The engineers, employees of a firm called KEC, were working on a power plant in Baghlan, Reuters reported. They were abducted while on their way to a government-run power station.
Baghlan Provincial Council official Firozudin Aimaq confirmed to local journalist Ajmal Omari that the incident occurred in Chashma-e-shir area in Baghlan’s Pul-e-Khomri.
No militant group has claimed responsibility for the abduction. It is also unclear if they have sought a ransom.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said the government was in contact with Afghan authorities, ANI reported. “We are aware of the abduction of Indian nationals from Baghlan province in Afghanistan. We are in contact with the Afghan authorities and further details are being ascertained,” he said.
