Haryana: Police constable dies as gunmen open fire in court complex to free accused
Two assailants were caught, but two others escaped, Superintendent of Police (Bhiwani) Ganga Ram Punia said.
A head constable of the Haryana Police was killed on Monday after gunmen opened fire inside a court complex in Bhiwani district in a failed bid to free a kidnapping accused, PTI reported.
The shooting began when the accused was about to get into a prison van in a court complex in Siwani. Bhagirath, the head constable who was escorting the prisoner, succumbed to a bullet injury.
The police managed to nab two assailants, while two others managed to escape, Superintendent of Police (Bhiwani) Ganga Ram Punia said. The police has seized a motorcycle, a pick-up van and some weapons, PTI reported.
Punia said a case has been registered in connection with the incident and efforts were on to nab the other two.
