The Karnataka High Court on Thursday granted bail to Mohammad Nalapad, son of Congress legislator NA Haris from Shantinagar in central Bengaluru, in an alleged assault case, reported The Hindu.

The High Court has asked Nalapad to furnish a bond for Rs 2 lakh and not to leave the city without permission from the trial court. He has also been directed not to tamper with the evidences and witnesses.

The High Court had denied bail to Nalapad in March on the grounds of “protecting peace in society and to check the manipulation and destruction of evidence in the case”.

Nalapad was arrested on February 19, two days after he and his associates allegedly assaulted Vidvat, the son of a businessman, in a cafe in Bengaluru. Nalapad and his supporters are believed to have also visited Vidvat in hospital and warned him against filing a complaint. He was suspended as the general secretary of the Bengaluru District Youth Congress after the incident

The chargesheet filed by the Central Crime Branch mentioned that Nalapad initiated the incident and provoked his associates with the intention of killing Vidvat, according to The News Minute.
