Six people were killed and four were injured after a truck carrying soil rammed into a makeshift house along National Highway 2 near the town of Maharajpur in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur district on Saturday, PTI reported.

The deceased were identified as 55-year-old Kallu Qureshi, his son Waseem Qureshi, daughter-in-law Yasmeen Qureshi, daughter Shamimun Qureshi and his two teenage granddaughters.

The accident took place when the driver lost control of the vehicle and hit the Qureshis’ thatched house before crashing into a neighbouring house, Superintendent of Police (Rural) Pradyuman Singh said. The driver then fled the spot, IANS reported.

The injured have been admitted to the Kanshiram Trauma centre and Lala Lajpat Rai hospital. The condition of two people is critical, the police said. A case has been registered against the truck driver.
