Delhi: Woman allegedly stripped, thrashed for trying to stop attack on landlady in Palam
The complainant said passers-by offered no help and only stopped to make videos on their mobile phones.
A woman was stripped and publicly thrashed allegedly by her landlady’s family members for trying to stop them from attacking the 65-year-old woman, reported PTI. The incident took place in southwest Delhi’s Palam area on Wednesday night, and a police complaint was filed on Friday.
“We have registered an FIR under Sections 354 (molestation) and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code against the people involved in the act,” a senior police officer told The Hindu. “We have also procured CCTV footage of the incident to identify the accused. They will be arrested soon.”
According to a complaint, the landlady’s son and daughter-in-law was thrashing her. When the complainant tried to intervene, they beat her up also. “Men and women started thrashing me with belts and rods,” the 45-year-old woman said in her complaint. When she tried to flee, they chased her and tore her clothes.
The woman alleged that she was thrashed for nearly an hour. Viral videos of the incident show the injured woman walking with her clothes torn. She said passers-by only stopped to make videos on their mobile phones. “But no one volunteered to inform the police about the incident,” she told The Hindu.
