The Delhi Police said they have busted a racket following the arrest of two men who were allegedly producing fake Aadhaar cards in Sarai Rohilla area, The Indian Express reported on Saturday. The police said they arrested 27-year-old Vikash Kumar and his associate 25-year-old Sushil Kumar from Shastri Nagar on June 26.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Vinit Kumar said his team seized a fake rubber stamp of the district magistrate (east), fake affidavits, 52 fully prepared fake plastic Aadhaar cards, 400 partially completed plastic cards, nine laminated Aadhaar cards, devices to make more cards and Rs 24,000 in cash from the site.

The police had set a trap after they received information about an illegal Aadhaar card centre operating in Shastri Nagar. A constable, in the guise of a customer, asked for a change in address on his Aadhaar card. When the storekeeper quoted a price for his service, the police arrested him.

Vikash Kumar purportedly started a photocopy service at the store in 2013. “Making no profit, Vikash and Sushil contacted a private firm authorised to prepare Aadhaar cards and were hired as data entry operators at a bank branch,” Vinit Kumar said. “They were provided with a user identity and password. But they took the equipment from the bank and installed it at their shop in Shastri Nagar.”

The police said the accused would charge Rs 400-Rs 500 per Aadhaar card. They are investigating if the accused managed to reactivate the IDs assigned to them at the private firm as well as the possible involvement of the company, The Times of India reported.
