Eleven members of a family were found dead in a house in North Delhi’s Burari locality on Sunday morning. Ten of the bodies were found blindfolded and hanging from a railing, while one was on the floor.

A case of murder has been filed in connection with the death of a 75-year-old due to asphyxiation, ANI reported. Postmortems are being conducted on the other 10 bodies. The police are treating the deaths as murder cases, according to The Indian Express.

The police said on Sunday that they suspect some “spiritual or mystical practices by the family” are connected with their deaths, NDTV reported.

While some reports claimed the family owned a grocery shop, other said they were into the plywood business. They may have committed suicide after the business suffered financial losses, News18 quoted unidentified police officials as saying.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party chief Manoj Tiwari visited the spot.

The police said they went to the house after a neighbour told them that six to seven people have committed suicide, PTI reported.
