Bihar: RTI activist and his friend shot dead in Jamui district
Valmiki Yadav had reportedly exposed several scams and financial irregularities in the public welfare schemes and developmental projects in the district.
Four unidentified men shot dead a Right to Information activist and his friend near Bichwe village In Bihar’s Jamui district on Sunday, reported IANS. No one has been arrested yet.
The attack took place around 7 pm. The assailants attacked Valmiki Yadav and his associate Dharmendra Yadav with rods before shooting at them, Jamui Sub-divisional Police officer Rampukar Singh told The Times of India.
Valmiki Yadav had reportedly exposed several scams and financial irregularities in the public welfare schemes and developmental projects in the district.
This is third such incident in the state in the last three months.
On June 20, unidentified assailants killed an RTI activist in East Champaran district. The assailants, who were on a bike, shot Rajendra Singh three times while he was on his way back from meeting his lawyer in Motihari town. He had helped expose discrepancies in the functioning of a Life Insurance Corporation office, irregularities in the recruitment of teachers and police personnel, and misuse of funds allotted for the Indira Awas Yojana housing project. Another RTI activist Jayant Kumar was shot dead in Vaishali district on April 4.
