Pilgrims have been left stranded because of separatists’ call for a strike on the second death anniversary of Burhan Wani.
Two Amarnath Yatra pilgrims have died of natural causes, taking the toll to 14, PTI quoted Jammu and Kashmir Police as saying on Sunday.
A resident of Hyderabad, 54-year-old Lakshmi Bai, suffered a heart attack at the Baltal base camp in Ganderbal district. A pilgrim from Andhra Pradesh – 72-year-old Ravinder Nath – was admitted to SKIMS hospital in Soura after he took ill. He died on Sunday.
Three people were killed and three were injured last Tuesday in a landslide on the Baltal route.
Meanwhile, on Sunday thousands of people – including Amarnath pilgrims – were left stranded after authorities suspended traffic movement on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway and the Mughal road, which connects Kashmir with the rest of the country. The law-enforcement agencies made the decision after separatists called a strike to commemorate the second death anniversary of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani.
The authorities have made boarding and lodging arrangements for more than 20,000 pilgrims who have reached the the state from various parts of the country for the pilgrimage, IANS reported.
