A 19-year-old taekwondo player who admitted that she had lost her foetus on board an AirAsia flight on Thursday said she was not aware of her pregnancy, reported PTI. Her brother-in-law also said that the family also did not know she was pregnant. However, the woman refused to undergo a medical examination.

Cabin crew discovered the body of the newborn, reportedly wrapped in toilet paper, when they were preparing the flight for landing in Delhi. In a statement, the airline said that the newborn was found lifeless and abandoned.

The Delhi Police have registered a case, and a post-mortem was conducted on the baby to determine its gestational age. The case was registered under Section 318 of the Indian Penal Code, pertaining to concealment of birth by secret disposal of dead body, and is punishable with two years in jail and a fine. An unidentified police officer told PTI that the case was not registered against the player.

The police have seized the player’s passport as she was supposed to travel to South Korea on Friday. She will be questioned soon.
