The Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority has registered a case against 74 builders for constructing 58 allegedly illegal buildings in Shahberi village, PTI reported on Monday. Two buildings under construction in Shahberi had collapsed on July 17, killing nine people.
Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority official DP Srivastava filed the complaint, which alleged that the builders were constructing the structures on the authority’s notified land without permits, Greater Noida Deputy Superintendent of Police Avneesh Kumar said.
The complaint added that the buildings being built in the village violated the norms set by the authority, and were unsafe structures.
On July 22, Greater Noida Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Pankaj Singh said that the laxity of officials contributed to the incident.
Last week, the police arrested four people in connection with the incident. This includes land owner Gangashankar Dwivedi and two associates. Gautam Buddh Nagar District Magistrate BN Singh has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident and asked for a report on the buildings within 15 days.
The government of Chief Minister Adityanath has sacked Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority Officer on Special Duty Vibha Chahal. Adityanath has also ordered the suspension of project manager VP Singh and assistant project manager Akhtar Abbas Zaidi for alleged dereliction of duty.
