Indian Coast Guard personnel rescued 343 people from a passenger ship that requested for help after it reported flooding on-board the vessel while it was docked off the Car Nicobar Islands, officials said on Thursday. The Coast Guard diverted one of its ships to the site and deployed a Dornier aircraft to aid the rescue mission.
The Coast Guard tweeted that all those on board passenger ship MV Swaraj Dweep are safe. “The passengers are being disembarked to vessel Ocean Marvel to avoid complications if the weather deteriorates,” the Coast Guard tweeted.
The force conducted a “de-flooding and damage control” operation with heavy duty submersible pumps.
