One person was killed and six were injured after a bus skidded off a road in Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba district early on Sunday, PTI reported, quoting police. The bus, run by Punjab’s Pepsu Road Transport Corporation, rolled down about 100 metres from the road at Dhagoh, police said.

The bus had “nearly 10” passengers on board and was travelling from Dalhousie in Himachal Pradesh to Patiala in Punjab, said Chamba Superintendent of Police Monica Bhutunguru. She said that the injured passengers had accused the driver of rash and negligent driving.

Police filed a case against the driver under Sections 279 (rash driving), 337 (causing hurt by endangering the life or personal safety of others), and 304A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code, she told PTI. Further investigation is under way.

The man who died in the incident was identified as Jagdish Chand, a resident of Amritsar. Residents in the area rescued the injured passengers with the help of police, who got the information around 6.20 am. The injured were taken to Sri Harigiri Hospital in Bakloh, where they are reportedly in a stable condition.
