Markets close at record high as Sensex gains 135 points, Nifty jumps 66 points
The positive sentiment in the Indian indices was influenced by strong cues from global markets.
The BSE Sensex on Monday closed at a record high of 37,691.89 after rising 135.73 points or 0.36%. It had gained as many 249.09 points during the day to reach 37,805.24, before shedding gains in afternoon trade. The Nifty 50 closed at a new record of 11,387.10 after finishing 23.10 points higher.
The positive sentiment in the market was influenced by strong cues from global markets, reported Mint. Asian stocks rose after China’s central bank took steps to stop the sharp decline in its currency.
The top gainers on the Sensex were Axis Bank, ICICI Bank, State Bank of India, Bharti Airtel, and Hero MotoCorp. The stocks that dropped the most were Kotak Mahindra Bank, Hindustan Unilever, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries, Tata Motors, and IndusInd Bank.
On the Nifty, the top gainers were Axis Bank, State Bank of India, ICICI Bank, Bharti Airtel, and UPL while the main losers were GAIL (India) Limited, Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd, Tata Motors Ltd, Hindustan Unilever Ltd, and Titan Company Limited.
The Indian rupee weakened against the dollar. The currency opened at 68.57 a dollar and was trading at 68.68 at 4.30 pm.
