Suspected militant carrying eight grenades and cash arrested in Jammu
The police alleged he was part of a conspiracy to carry out attacks in New Delhi ahead of Independence Day.
The police in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday said they have foiled a potential terrorist attack in New Delhi ahead of Independence Day by arresting a suspected militant in Jammu the previous night, reported PTI.
The police intercepted a Delhi-bound bus in the city’s Gandhi Nagar area, and arrested Arfan Wani, a resident of Awantipora in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district. He was reportedly carrying eight grenades and Rs 60,000 cash.
Wani is currently being questioned about his links in the national Capital. “He was carrying the cache of grenades to Delhi to hand them over to someone and they could have been used to disrupt August 15 celebrations in Delhi,” Inspector-general of Police (Jammu zone) SD Singh Jamwal told ANI.
The police and other security agencies are on high alert in Delhi and Jammu ahead of Independence Day celebrations. According to intelligence agencies, militant groups Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed and Hizbul Mujahideen have plans to carry out terror attacks, reported Times Now.
