Three fishermen died and two were injured after their fishing vessel collided with a ship off the Kochi coast in Kerala on Tuesday morning, The Hindu reported. Nine others are reportedly missing and a search operation is under way to find them.

The two injured fishermen were admitted to the Government General Hospital in Ernakulam, reported The New Indian Express.

Sivan, the owner of the fishing boat, told The New Indian Express that the vessel overturned due to the impact of the collision and the three people may have died after they got trapped underneath.

The Navy diverted a Sea King helicopter and deployed INS Jamuna, a hydrographic survey ship, to look for survivors, according to The Hindu. The Indian Coast Guard has identified the cargo ship allegedly behind the accident and efforts are on to intercept and bring it to the coast, the Hindustan Times reported.
