TRS MP D Srinivas’ son arrested for allegedly sexually harassing students of a nursing college
The police booked him under the Nirbhaya Act and the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Prevention of Atrocities Act.
The police in Telangana on Sunday arrested the son of Telangana Rashtra Samithi’s Rajya Sabha MP D Srinivas for allegedly sexually harassing students of a college that he owns, The News Minute reported.
On August, 11 students of Shankari Nursing College submitted a memorandum against D Sanjay to state Home Minister Naini Narasimha Reddy and Director General of Police M Mahender Reddy.
The students then registered a complaint with the Nizamabad police, alleging that Sanjay regularly misbehaved them, the Hindustan Times reported. The women claimed that he abused them when they refused his sexual advances. The women reportedly submitted text messages from Sanjay as evidence.
The police have booked Sanjay under the Nirbhaya Act and the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Prevention of Atrocities Act.
After the case was registered, Sanjay – a former mayor of Nizamabad – went absconding. The High Court rejected his plea for an anticipatory bail. On August 10, the police put up a notice at his home, asking him to appear for questioning by August 12.
On Sunday, Sanjay went to the Assistant Commissioner’s office, where he was interrogated for three hours. He was subsequently arrested. He has been sent to two-week judicial custody.
The former mayor of Nizamabad has rejected the allegations against him. He claimed that he hardly visited the college and has not interacted with the students. “The allegations are politically motivated and aimed at targeting my family,” the Hindustan Times quoted him as saying.
