The Bharatiya Janata Party is likely to lose all three upcoming Assembly elections in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, a survey conducted by C-VOTER and ABP News predicted on Monday. However, the survey also said that the saffron party will bank on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to turn the tide in its favour in these states in the 2019 General Elections.

Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, which are currently ruled by the BJP, will have elections later this year. The opinion poll predicted that the Congress will win a clear majority in all three states. A good performance in these Assembly elections is likely to give the Congress enough room to negotiate for seats in 2019.

The survey predicted that the Congress will win 130 seats, while the BJP will be restricted to 57 in the 200-seat Rajasthan Assembly. In 2013, the BJP had won 163 seats and the Congress only 21. In terms of vote share, the Congress is projected to get close to 51% this time, and the BJP 36.8%.

The Congress is likely to cross the majority mark on its own in the 230-seat Madhya Pradesh Assembly, with 117 seats, the survey claimed. The BJP is projected to win 106 seats. The two parties’ vote share is also predicted to be very close – Congress is expected get 41.7% while BJP will have 40.1%, according to the survey.

In the 90-member Chhattisgarh Assembly, the Congress is projected to win 54 seats with a 40% vote share and the BJP is expected to win 33 seats with a 38.8% vote share.

However, the results were completely different when the survey’s 28,000 respondents were asked about the Lok Sabha elections. The three states have 65 Lok Sabha seats in total. According to the opinion poll, voters prefer the BJP at the Centre and Prime Minister Narendra Modi remains the preferred choice to lead the country.
