Chhattisgarh’s upcoming capital, Naya Raipur, will be renamed after Atal Bihari Vajpayee
Chief Minister Raman Singh made the announcement on Tuesday after a Cabinet meeting.
Naya Raipur, the proposed capital of Chhattisgarh, will be renamed “Atal Nagar” after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Chief Minister Raman Singh said on Tuesday, according to ANI.
Vajpayee, who was prime minister between 1998 and 2004, died on August 16 after a prolonged illness. He was 93.
Naya Raipur is located 17 km southeast of Raipur, the current capital. Vajpayee was the prime minister when Chhattisgarh was carved out of Madhya Pradesh in 2000.
After a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, Singh also announced the renaming of some other institutions and projects after Vajpayee, reported Patrika. The Bilaspur University, a medical college and the under-construction Central Park will be named after the former Bharatiya Janata Party leader.
