Maharashtra: Man beaten to death for refusing to withdraw molestation complaint lodged by daughter
The accused, who allegedly molested the woman in 2015, and three of his accomplices were arrested on Monday.
Seven people allegedly beat to death a 55-year-old man in Maharashtra’s Malegaon in Nashik district for refusing to withdraw a molestation case lodged by his daughter against one of them, PTI reported on Tuesday quoting police.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Ratnakar Navale said four of the attackers, including Sayyad Sayeed who allegedly molested the woman, have been arrested while police are searching for the other accused.
Navale said Sayeed allegedly molested the woman in Malegaon town of Nashik in 2015. The woman registered a complaint at Pawardi police station and the case is pending in a local court.
An unidentified police official said Sayeed had been harassing the woman’s father to withdraw the case, but he had refused.
On Saturday night, Sayeed and some of his accomplices stopped the man while he was returning home on a motorcycle in Malegaon and allegedly assaulted him with sticks. He suffered severe injuries in the attack and died on his way to a hospital, Navale said.
The victim’s son filed a complaint, based on which police arrested four of the accused on Monday. The accused have been booked under Sections 302 (murder), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 147, 148 (rioting), and other sections of the Indian Penal Code, Navale said.
