Two Navy personnel died in an accident at the naval base in Kochi, Kerala, on Thursday, PTI reported. A defence spokesperson said an aircraft hangar collapsed at the naval base.
The two people were identified as Naveen (28) and Ajeet Singh (29). They were passing by when the door was “dislodged from its supporting rails above” and fell on them, a defence statement said. “Both the sailors were rushed in a critically injured state to the naval hospital, INHS Sanjivani, where despite best efforts of the doctors to resuscitate them, they succumbed to their injuries at about 9.40 am,” it added.
A board of inquiry has been constituted to investigate the accident.
Naveen was from Bhiwani district of Haryana and had joined the Indian Navy in 2008. He is survived by a wife and son. Ajeet Singh, who belonged to Bharatpur district of Rajasthan, joined the Navy in 2009 and is also survived by a wife and son.
