Two juveniles held for raping Delhi toddler
Police said the two 17-year-old boys were neighbours and knew the child's family.
Two boys, both 17, were arrested on Sunday for raping a two-and-a-half-year-old girl in west Delhi on Friday night. The joint commissioner of police said they had formed 15 teams to track down the accused, and found that the boys were neighbours known to the child’s family. The two had abducted her during a power cut in the area on Friday, and at least one of them raped her, the police said. While the police had suspected that two men on a motorcycle had picked her up, this turned out to be a false lead.
The Delhi police had earlier arrested three men for raping another minor, a five-year-old girl, in east Delhi on Saturday. They have been identified as Prakash, Sita Ram and Rewati, and were allegedly drunk when they raped the girl while she was alone at home. The two incidents fanned outrage in the Capital, which is repeatedly in the news for sex crimes.
Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) Chairperson Swati Maliwal condemned the attacks, claiming they reflected "huge shortcomings in the law and order situation of the capital."
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will meet Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung on Sunday to discuss the law and order situation in the state.
