The Delhi government on Tuesday decided to rename Pragati Maidan metro station as Supreme Court metro station, PTI reported. The changes will be implemented within a month, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said.

The administration also decided to change the name of Mukarba Chowk in Jahangirpuri locality and its flyover after Kargil martyr Captain Vikram Batra. Sisodia said the committee had decided to name Mehrauli Badarpur Road in South Delhi as Acharya Shri Mahapragya Marg.

“Mukarba Chowk is one of the most important junctions in the country,” Sisodia said at a press conference. “Naming the chowk as well as the flyover after Shaheed Captain Vikram Batra who was martyred in the Kargil War in 1999 can inspire people of Delhi and those who come to Delhi.”

In September last year, the demand to rename the Pragati Maidan metro station that is located on the blue line of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation was made by the Supreme Court itself, according to The Times of India. The proposal to change the name of the Mehrauli Badarpur stretch was made by various organisations and people, the Delhi government said.

The government’s naming commission also changed the names of several other streets and flyovers, including south Delhi’s Mehrauli-Gurgaon Road to Acharya Tulsi Marg. The panel was constituted in 2017 and is led by Sisodia.
