Two men were detained after Engineer Rashid, an independent MLA from Jammu and Kashmir, was attacked with ink and oil in Delhi on Monday. This came nearly two weeks after he served beef at a party in Srinagar, defying a high court order banning the meat in the state.

According to an NDTV report, the two men, Deepak and Dev Indra Singh, claimed they were angry over Rashid's serving beef but that they were not affiliated with any political party.

BJP MLA Gagan Bhagat defended the assault, and told ANI, "The incident is not right. However, Rashid is a victim of his own doing." Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed condemned the attack, along with former chief minister Omar Abdullah.

This is the second assault on the MLA this month. On October 7, he was beaten up by Bharatiya Janata Party MLAs in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly for his beef party.
