Two children die after Dalit family is set on fire in Faridabad
The police suspect caste-based tension was behind the crime.
Four members of a Dalit family were set on fire early on Tuesday morning in Sunped village in Haryana's Faridabad district. Two of them, both children, succumbed to their injuries in Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital, while the others remain in critical condition. Police suspect caste-based tension behind the crime, saying that the village has a history of violence between Dalits and upper-caste villagers. Two people have been arrested in the case, according to India Today.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Ballabgarh) Bhupinder Singh, told The Hindu that there were no signs of attack on the house and only the bed on which the family was sleeping caught fire. He said, “We are trying to find what caused the fire. A jagran was on in the vicinity of the house and nobody noticed anything suspicious.” Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has condemned the attack and announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the family.
