An overcrowded minibus fell into a gorge in Ramnagar, Jammu and Kashmir, killing 14 people and injuring at least 17 on Tuesday morning. The vehicle, which was going from Ghordi to Ramnagar, was full of college students and government employees, the Press Trust of India reported.

The state government announced compensation of Rs 1 lakh for the family of the deceased and Rs 10,000 each to those injured. Deputy Commissioner Udhampur Shahid Iqbal Choudhary said eyewitnesses saw the driver speeding and using his mobile phone when he lost control of the vehicle. The victims were taken to the district hospital in Udhampur, and the seriously injured are being transferred to the Government Medical College and Hospital in Jammu.
