Move aside, Lionel Richie, there's a new Hello on the charts. Adele – the Grammy-winning British singer-songwriter who became a worldwide phenomenon five years ago – is back. It has been three years since we last heard from Adele Laurie Blue Adkins, known only by her first name and she'd like to know if we can still hear her.
Hello, the first single out from the singer's new album, 25, which will be released in November 2015, has all the hallmarks of classic Adele songs: lush sounds, a spare piano track, heartfelt lyrics and plenty of opportunity for her to air that soulful voice.
Adele has teased the song a couple of times over the last few weeks and put out an open letter about the new album, explaining why it has been so many years since she last put out music: because "life happened."
A new Adele song and album isn't just a musical landmark, it's a business one too. Her last album, 21, became the fourth best-selling album in UK history and globally, it was the biggest selling musical release for two years in a row. Yes, you read that right, two years. The last time an album that did that was Michael Jackson's Thriller. If that's what 21 was able to do, what successes awaits 25 which comes out on November 20?
