The August 5 releases include two Hollywood biggies, Jason Bourne and Suicide Squad. The IMAX format of Jason Bourne has already been released on the handful of such screens in the country. Also on the list is a new Arshad Warsi comedy and the arthouse drama Chauthi Koot.
Suicide Squad A group of incarcerated supervillains is dangled the carrot of clemency if they will agree to wave their sticks at the evil forces threatening the world. The sprawling cast includes Viola Davis as the government recruiter, Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto and Jay Hernandez. Ben Affleck has a cameo as Batman and Ezra Miller plays The Flash. The focus, predictably, is on Leto’s interpretation of the Joker, reportedly influenced by anything between Alexander Jodorowsky and Mexican gangsters.
Budhia Singh Born To Run Soumendra Padhi’s debut feature is a biopic of the prodigious child marathoner who sprinted his way into the record books. The movie looks at the relationship between Oriya boy wonder Budhia Singh (Mayur Parole) and his ambitious coach, Biranchi Das (Manoj Bajpyee).
Jason Bourne Paul Greengrass’s movie has already been released exclusively on IMA screens in India. The 2D and 3D versions follow on August 5. Bourne (Matt Damon) is back, and this time, he wants to know the extent of his father’s involvement in his transformation from an all-American patriot into a dangerous weapon for the government’s dirty tricks. Also starring Tommy Lee Jones, Alicia Vikander, and Vincent Cassel as the killer with a bone to pick with Bourne.
The Legend of Michael Mishra Despite the title, this is a Hindi movie set in a small town. Manish Jha is back after what seems to be decades for a comedy starring the talented Arshad Warsi as an inveterate criminal who is advised to clean up his ways if he has to win the heart of his lady love (Aditi Rao Hydari). Also starring Boman Irani and his son, Kayoze.
Chauthi Koot Gurvinder Singh’s National Film Award decorated arthouse drama is set in militancy-riven Punjab in the 1980s. Based on two stories by Waryam Singh Sandhu, Chauthi Koot brings to the surface the feelings of anxiety and fear as villagers are caught between weapon-toting militants and the government.
Fever Rajeev Khandelwal’s latest attempt to revive his non-existent film career sees him in the role of a contract killer who loses his memory in an accident. Armin Salem, in the manner of Jason Bourne, retraces his steps with the help of Gauhar Khan’s Kaavya. Khandelwal fans will be pleased with the seemingly high amount of bedroom activity that has been crammed into the trailer.
