In his latest underdog role, Nawazuddin Siddiqui plays a shopkeeper who discovers his talent for golf and turns into an overnight sensation in Freaky Ali. The September 9 release has been directed by Sohail Khan and co-stars Arbaaz Khan and Amy Jackson. The massy soundtrack is a nod to the movies featuring their more famous and successful brother. Sajid-Wajid, who have delivered hit songs for several Salman Khan starrers, including Wanted (2009), Dabangg (2010) and Dabangg 2 (2012), have composed the three songs in Freaky Ali.

‘Din Mein Karengey Jagrata’.

Din Mein Karengey Jagrata is a disco bhajan, sung by Wajid, Divya Kumar and Swati Sharma and written by. Shabbir Ahmed. It is a standard dance number with loud drumbeats, brass band orchestration and pedestrian lyrics that urge the deejay to turn up the volume.

Then comes the melodious Parinda Hai Parinda, which reverberates with a great violin and guitar mélange. Wajid sings about a pigeon atop a mausoleum chirping the name of Allah. The tune and the lyrics by Ahmed are reminiscent of the soothing composition Allah Ke Bande from Waise Bhi Hota Hai Part II (2003), in which Kailash Kher sang about a “toota parinda” (broken bird).

A bhajan is tucked into the quirky qawwali Ya Ali Murtuza. Wajid, Danish Sabri and Payal Dev sing about looking for the divine beyond places of worship and turn to the streets for a medley of sounds. Traditional musical instruments used in qawwali, such as the harmonium and the tabla, are fused with the drums and cymbals heard during Ganpati processions. The two styles merge into a dramatic track effective for on-screen histrionics.
