The Boy With The Topknot, a television movie adapted from British journalist Sathnam Sanghera’s eponymous memoir, will air on BBC two in the United Kingdom on November 13. The 90-minute drama has been produced by Kudos, BBC, and Parti Productions and directed by Lynsey Miller. The film stars Sacha Dhawan as Sanghera and Anupam Kher and Deepti Naval as his parents

Born to Punjabi parents in Wolverhampton in England, Sanghera had chronicled his experiences as a second-generation British Indian in his widely acclaimed 2009 novel. The book is an account of his childhood, relationship issues and family secrets, and also touches upon mental illness.

“After reading Sathnam’s memoir; The Boy With The Topknot, I was so excited to hear that BBC, Kudos and Parti Productions were adapting it,” Dhawan said in a press release. “Not only is it a beautiful story, but it’s also funny and immensely moving. I feel incredibly proud to be playing Sathnam, and look forward to telling a story, which has already touched so many people.”
