The second biopic of renowned American feminist Gloria Steinem has been greenlit, and it will star Carey Mulligan, according to a Variety report. Titled An Uncivil War, the movie will be directed by Dee Rees, whose recent Mudbound has been drawing good notices.

“The movie will focus on efforts by feminist activist and journalist Gloria Steinem, lawyer and activist Florynce Kennedy, and others to ratify the ERA, while conservative organizer Phyllis Schlafly advocates against it,” Variety reported. The Equal Rights Amendment proposes to guarantee equal rights irrespective of gender in the American Constitution. The amendment was first introduced in 1923. Although it was passed by the US Congress in 1972, the ERA has not yet been ratified by three-fourths of the 50 American states in order to be included in the Constitution.

While production on An Uncivil War will begin in March 2018, Julia Taymor’s biopic, starring Julianne Moore, is still being written. Taymor’s movie will trace Steinem’s rise as an icon of women’s rights in the late 1960s. The script has been adapted from Steinem’s memoir My Life On The Road by playwright Sarah Ruhl.
