Metaphors become unnervingly literal in the teaser for Christian Rivers’ Mortal Engines, an adaptation of Phillip Reeve’s novel of the same name. Depicting a dystopian world in cities and towns are mounted on wheels and motorised, the teaser features a massive London bearing down ruthlessly on a small town. Replete with special effects and a pervasive feeling of doom, the teaser sketches a daunting portrait of Reeve’s dystopia.

The movie will be released on December 14, 2018, by Universal Pictures.

The movie is set in a post-apocalyptic world in which cities-on-wheels battle each other for the few remaining resources on earth. In this chaotic universe, an unlikely alliance forms between Tom Natsworthy (Robert Sheehan), who lives in the lower echelons of the steampunk version of London, and fugitive Hester Shaw (Hera Hilmar).

Mortal Engines has been co-produced by The Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson and co-written by him along with Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens. The cast includes Hugo Weaving, Jihae, Ronan Raftery, Leila George, Patrick Malahide, and Stephen Lang.
