The book Veerappan: Chasing The Brigand, about the rise and eventual capture of the famed bandit will be adapted into a movie and a series for television and the web. Production company E4 entertainment announced on Thursday that it has acquired the rights for the book and plans to make movies in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam as well as episodes in Hindi or English.

Veerappan: Chasing The Brigand has been written by police officer K Vijay Kumar, who headed a special team that killed Veerappan in the 2004 Operation Cocoon.

E4 entertainment has previously produced the films Annayum Rasoolum (2012), Guppy (2016), and North 24 Kaatham (2013), which won the National Award for Best Feature Film in Malayalam.

The dacoit’s story was the subject of Ram Gopal Varma’s 2016 Kannada docudrama Killing Veerappan, which he also remade in Hindi. Veerappan also inspired the brigand characters in Varma’s Jungle (2000) and Mani Ratnam’s Raavanan (2010).
