American actor Gillian Anderson will quit The X-Files after its upcoming eleventh season, according to a report by Insider TV.

Anderson had hinted in October that she would be leaving the show after its eleventh season. She confirmed her decision in an interview with Insider TV. “I’ve said from the beginning this is it for me,” she told the entertainment portal. “I was a bit surprised by people’s [shocked] reaction to my announcement…because my understanding was that this was a single season.”

Created by Chris Carter, The X-Files features supernatural occurrences that are investigated by special agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Anderson). The show ran between 1993 and 2003 for nine seasons and was revived for a short tenth season in 2016. The eleventh edition will be premiered on Fox TV on Wednesday.
