Alcoholism, substance abuse, an abusive family history, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Hugo Weaving: all these and more in the trailer for the Showtime mini-series Patrick Melrose.
The seriocomic show is based on Edward St Aubyn’s semi-autobiographical series The Patrick Melrose Novels and traces the titular character’s experiences with an abusive father, a dysfunctional mother, alcohol and drug addiction, deaddiction, and starting a family of his own. Directed by Edward Berger (Deutchland 83, Jack), the series will comprise five episodes, with each episode based on one of Aubyn’s novels. Set in southern France, New York and Britain, Patrick Melrose will be aired over the next few months.
