Dhanush and Anirudh Ravichander came up with the phrase “soup boys” – slang for lovesick men – in the earworm Kolaveri Di in 2011. Now Tamizh Padam 2.0, the sequel to CS Amudhan’s spoof Tamizh Padam (2010), brings Evada Unna Petha, a song for the “soup girls”.

N Kannan has composed the song, while the vocals are by Ranina Reddy. The lyrics by director Amudhan and Chandru speak of female anger against men. The title translates into “Who gave birth to you, man?”, and the rest of the song reveals how women would settle their scores with men if they got their hands on them.

Tamizh Padam 2.0 is scheduled to be released on May 25. Like the first film, which is a spoof of Tamil action productions, the song Evada Unna Petha is a spoof of both Kolaveri Di and the controversial Beep Song, written, composed and sung by Silambarasan, which ran into trouble for featuring misogynistic lyrics.

Shiva reprises his role in the Tamizh Padam sequel. The first-look poster, released in December 2017, announced that the bootleg torrent website Tamilrockers was the film’s official piracy partner.
